I like people! I like computers too, but what I really like is helping people by providing practical solutions via technology. I enjoy listening to issues and challenges from people and matching up solutions. Because of this passion, I have learned (via specialized training and more so from hands-on experience) to leverage such operating systems as Microsoft, Apple, Linux, I-OS Android, BSD and several Network Operating Systems as well. I have spent a considerable amount of time building and implementing VPN solutions and Virtual Infrastructure on extremely large wide area networks. I have had several long term employment positions at technology-centric company's that presented me with ample training and opportunity to research and explore new cost effective and green technologies. I was given the opportunity to then create solutions with this information and follow the projects through to evaluate effectiveness.

My
range of experience with virtual environments spans from hardware
preparation
and host building to network router and switch configuration.
I have built high availability
clusters with KVM and administered VMware clusters on a daily
basis. Installation and network configuration
of Guest operating systems was also one of my common tasks.
I worked for "Front Porch" in Sonora CA for 7 years. Although I was originally hired to be a network engineer I possessed a rather unique skill set that soon got me involved in several other projects that were not directly related to Network Engineering. Some of these projects became crucial to everyday tasks for the entire company. Due to security reasons I am not able to go into detail on all these projects, I am able to say I am very proud of them and the time they have saved my coworkers to this day. The last two years of my employment I worked very closely with Derek Maxson, the company co-founder, and TCO. A lot of the nature of my duties are again not something that can be divulged in full but I have gotten permission to list some of the more obvious projects.
Designed built and oversaw critical file maintenance scripts. These scripts monitored large quantities of files and moved terabytes of data per day to customer requested locations. When this system was complete I was able to increase 4 fold the amount of data moved per hour and archive data in the event that the customer target location lost connectivity.
Designed built and implemented Anonymous Browsing Network. This network leveraged OpenVPN to allow 1200 connections per server. It allowed clients to utilize the internet safely by masking their source ip address and encrypting all of their traffic. This type of service is used heavily in developing countries or any place suffering from political unrest and or violence
Assisted in the recreation of critical back-end production environments into smaller, deploy-able and secured product. (Fancy way of saying virtualized and shrunk down version of our production environment.)
Designed built and maintained VPN for "road warrior" co workers.
Designed and built appliance pre-boot and diagnostic operating system.
Designed and built various php based tech support tools for locating vulnerable appliances and pushing automatic upgrades.
Redesigned and rebuilt vpn/router back-end network for a 6000+ node global free-WiFi network. (Like the services you see at fast food places.)
Assisted in troubleshooting vary bizarre and interesting network issues in all corners of the globe. (If there is a problem and sand is anywhere around, the problem is going to be caused by sand!)
I worked at Mother Lode Job Training for 9 years. This job shaped me more than anything in my life. I entered employment as a lab instructor and left as a Technology Services Communications Specialist. My students for the first two years of this job were dislocated workers who walked through the door unable to imagine how computers could be of any assistance to them. They left fully trained in office related software, confident and employable. It was the most rewarding position (outside my home) I have ever held.
2 years of classroom Instruction. Classes consisted of: general computer skills and progressed through all of the Microsoft Office major components. Towards the end of this two year job I was also teaching several internet usage and safety courses.
Expansion and maintenance of agency website.
Designed, built and maintained 4 county wide web based customer tracking system.
Designed and built agency routers and remote desktop IT assistance system.
Although I rarely get to use it much anymore the standard knowledge expected from a VCP extends into almost all Virtual Infrastructure models.
This training camp is a must have for anyone working with network security.
